Schema is business facts written in a format machines read directly: name, address, phone, hours, services. A person can read your phone number off the page. Google would rather be told. Sites without it are guessed at — and guessing is how you end up missing from the map.
Why it matters for a local business
People do not scroll. They ask Google or they ask ChatGPT, and they pick from what comes back first. Both read the same handful of signals off your site — and the businesses that get chosen are usually not the best ones, just the ones whose sites are easiest to read.
