The job itself

- What brand and line of shingles or materials are included?

Warranty, clean-up and payment
- What does your workmanship warranty cover, and for how long? Is there a manufacturer warranty too?

- What deposit do you need, and when is the rest due?
- Can I talk to two customers whose roofs you did in the last year?
Red flags

Common questions
How many roofing quotes should I get?
At least two, ideally three, written and covering the same scope, so you are comparing like with like.
Is it normal for a roofer to ask for a deposit?
A deposit for materials is common. Paying most or all of the job before work starts is a red flag.
How do I check a roofer's license?
Rules differ: some states license roofers, others leave it to cities or don't license roofing at all. Search your state's contractor license lookup and your city's contractor registration.
